A couple years ago while visiting SFMOMA I saw this guy creating a tape sculpture on his arm. The guy’s name is Danny Scheible and at the time was a senior at UC Santa Cruz. I was amazed by his creativity and skill in constructing these masterpieces, just walking along, looking at art, and twisting tape on his arm…unbelievable. Below is a detail of what he was working on.

Jersey
Happy Cows come from California and apparently creative people come from New Jersey… “an epicenter of artistic talent.” Or so this article says. Article title: The Hidden State of Culture (from WSJ).
The jumble of contrasts is…the source of Jersey’s remarkable harvest of talent. It drives certain people to either build a unified artistic sensibility out of the divisions around them, or to create art unhindered by a narrow identity.
The California vs. New Jersey culture war is on in our household.

A walk down Telegraph Ave in Oakland, between Alcatraz and 51st St. yields neighborhood commerce with signage from another era. Today’s shot is a detail of the lettering in front of Steele’s Diving Shop.

I thought it would be fun to post an image with a sense of humor. This picture was taken on a recent visit to my childhood home where a handful of my belongings still remain. Among my stuff is a full box of cassettes from the 80′s, the shot today shows a slice of what I was listening to back in high school, it’s quite a mix and still cracks me up every time I look at it, enjoy.

Today is my Dad’s 65th birthday and I thought it would be cool to honor him with one of my favorite shots ever. Taken at an Oakland A’s game at Oakland Coliseum, I love how the field is reflected in his sunglasses. This is the man who introduced baseball to me at an early age, bringing me to Mets games at Shea Stadium, having a catch with me in the front yard and cheering me on when I was playing center field for our high school. This picture means a lot to me, Happy Birthday Dad.
