On Sunday, January 29th Wilco made its return to San Francisco proper for the first time in 4 years to play The Warfield, the first of three sold out Bay Area gigs. This was my first time seeing Wilco and was greatly impressed by the musicianship of the band and the sweet vocals of frontman Jeff Tweedy.
I photographed the show and my shots were published in Hidden Track, you can see them here.

In December 2011 Chris Robinson Brotherhood played a four-night run at San Francisco’s legendary Great American Music Hall to cap off a year of touring with his new band. After two memorable nights of extended jams and Chris’ brand of blues psychedelia, the band moved into night three with a big surprise. After rocking the first set with the full band, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead came out to fill-in on bass duties for the whole second set. The set included a fair amount of Grateful Dead tunes peppered between CRB originals.

I photographed the evening and my photos were published on the music magazine Hidden Track, you can check them out here.

San Francisco artist Alan Forbes designed the posters for the four-night run.

After a full day of music and wandering the fairgrounds with my sister and niece, I managed to make my way front row center with my Canon 40D and snapped some photos. I’ve seen The Flaming Lips a few times but never up this close. They always put on a fun show, and they sounded fantastic, especially from the front row.

One is about the SoMa neighborhood in San Francisco, the other about the Ashby Station neighborhood in Berkeley. On both of these features I collaborated with writer and good friend, Jennifer Liss who researched and wrote the stories.

I’ve been designing and art directing for Attack! for several years now. Attack! offers nationwide event staffing, field support, and guerrilla services focused on developing successful brand experiences. One of the first projects I did with them was to re-design the logo and visual identity by creating the Sumo silhouette. More recently I’ve designed some ads and a media kit for them…

The following advertisement will appear on the back cover of Event Marketer Magazine for the duration of 2010.

This animated banner is being served-up on the home page of Event Marketer Magazine online. View it below or visit www.eventmarketer.com to see it live.

Visual Texture has a new look! The facelift employs a WordPress theme called Modern-Clix. I subscribe to a “less is more” attitude when it comes to design, and after using a basic WordPress template to get the blog off the ground it was time to make a change, switch themes, get nerdy, and fool with some code. The result is a cleaner, simpler layout that uses the Golden Rectangle principle, an aesthetically pleasing proportion favored by designers.

What I like: The simplicity of the theme lets the typography sing. The horizontal lines are quiet yet effective. It is spare but has a solid structure. It is VT’s new home.

Late last year I was hired to photograph properties to accompany some of these stories. So far two of my assignments have been published; a cover story about Bay Area views, and a story about solar energy. Both are shown below. More to come…
